If you’re convinced that you keep failing your tests because the judge doesn’t like you, I probably hate you.
Ha. For the record, there was this one judge who actually was really grouchy with me on a constant basis. She failed almost everything I tried, and sometimes for randomly arbitrary reasons (like insisting I put my foot down on a bracket in intermediate moves when I didn’t).
I mean, big deal, right? You only need 2 to pass, but it just pissed me off. I’d get high passes from the other two and an outright fail (not a reskate) from this one judge. She was also notorious for saying adults like me shouldn’t be testing standard track (er, bite me). I eventually did test and pass Adult Gold Moves and Free but my goal’s still to get done with the standard tests.
When I passed my Novice moves she was there too, and actually passed me right on the dot. One of the other judges was an Olympic-certified judge and I passed .5 higher with her, so that made my day.
And quite honestly I wanted to send this judge a copy of my gold moves paperwork when I passed that sucker on the first try by all three judges. Usually I go out on test sessions and proceed to have a little internal panic attack. This one I just nailed. And it was pretty epic because I did it with all of 5 lessons with my coach at the time.
/end random babble.
nope, the judges here hate you if you’re a figure skater and an ice dancer and they make sure you know that its part of why they mark you down. they have this idea that ice dance is inferior so therefore they dont want to allow you to ‘taint’ their precious figure skating with your dancing edges. and they dont believe that one skater can be in more than one skating discipline, for example i do figure skating, ice dance and theatre on ice, they look down on me and laugh at me for it. australian judges are shit heads.
Honestly, apart from that one judge (still don’t get it as her granddaughter was several levels ahead of me so it couldn’t be some weird competitive BS thing), I haven’t noticed any judge bias in my tests since I moved to California. The tests I passed I deserved to pass. The ones I failed were terrible, without question.
I haven’t tested in the Bay Area yet, but I’ve been warned they have higher expectations than other regions, which will probably put them on par with the ones in Minneapolis.
Basically, I have my work cut out for me when it comes to getting my last few tests passed, it seems.
